I’ve had my share of kids, I’ve had my share of being cut off from a couple of them and then re-united when they were old enough to think for themselves, I’ve had my share of laughter and tears. Life often seems like it will never repay the longing, the hoping, the love sent from a distance – and then one day the sun shines and the clouds clear and everything is as it should be.
Last month I got a call from my son Charlie after 13 years of enforced silence – prevented from seeing me by his mother for all this time. He called me to meet up – and I heard him say I love you.
It’s worth waiting for such moments, even if you think they’ll never come, because the heart always wins, and now we are back together – father and son.
